Job Description:
The Director of Student Life shall plan, direct and administer a dynamic ministry designed to make and mature disciples for Christ. The emphasis will be on study, service, mission and fellowship for Senior High Students. The Director will also supervise the Middle School and College Ministries while developing relationships with all youth, their parents and the congregation.
Qualifications: 1. Must have a mature, deep commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, a strong biblical foundation and exhibit a lifestyle in accordance with Christian values 2. A 4-year college degree from an accredited college with 2 years previous experience coordinating youth programs in a large church setting is preferred 3. Must have theological compatibility with First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland's Reformed teaching and doctrines 4. Church membership at FPC of Lakeland is required
Accountability: This position is supervised by the Director of Christian Education and accountable to the Session through the Student Life Ministry Elder
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Provide the Student Life Ministry program for High School and supervise the program for middle school and college students with an understanding that Student Life Ministry includes worship, education, spiritual development, mission, fellowship and support of youth and their families 2. Develop, establish and maintain a creative, inviting program that will integrate young people into the full life of the church, meet the needs of FPC youth and reach out to the youth in the surrounding region 3. Plan and coordinate Sunday School, weekly Bible Study and "Praise and Worship" programs which challenge youth to develop appropriate spiritual maturity and growth 4. Regularly attend and encourage the youth to be present for FPC Sunday morning worship service 5. Develop youth awareness of mission through teaching and mission projects, both local and global 6. Regularly attend athletic, school and social functions, to show support of youth 7. Work along side other FPC staff members as a team player, sharing the vision and ministry of FPC; attend all staff meetings, including retreats and other functions 8. Recruit, train and equip adults within the congregation to serve as mentors and supporters of the youth and their activities 9. Offer support and encouragement to the youth while respecting and maintaining confidentiality 10. Commit to be involved in continuing education as it relates to the Student Life Ministry (i. e., crisis counseling, current trends in youth ministry) 11. Oversee, implement and provide teaching in both large and small group settings 12. Develop and manage the Student Life Ministry budget 13. Be responsible for conducting yearly performance reviews of personnel in the Student Life Ministry department 14. Be aware of and comply with all FPC of Lakeland policies
